The Argentinean striker has signed a two-year deal until the end of the 2022/2023 season with a €100m (£86m) buyout clause. He joins the Catalan club as a free transfer after City decided not to renew his contract earlier this year.

The Spanish club also released a statement: “FC Barcelona and Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club from 1 July when his contract with Manchester City expires.”

The 33-year-old striker will join friend and Argentinean teammate, Lionel Messi, at the Camp Nou stadium. The La Liga club, is hopeful that Agüero can fill the position left by Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez. As the Premier League’s player with best minutes-to-goals ratio, Barcelona are optimistic that his experience and vital attacking skills can improve and provide an impact to the team’s offensive side, and possibly assist in convincing Messi to remain on the team. They have played alongside each other for about 20 years on the Argentinean team. Barca’s President, Joan Laporta, is hopeful that plans to extend Messi’s deal are “going well.”

Agüero endured a medical at the Creu Blanca clinic Monday, with extensive checks being made on his previously injured left knee.

‘Kun’ Agüero also commented on his signing stating “Of course it is a step forward in my career and hopefully I can help the team win things. I want to play and help this squad, and if the team does it well, I will be happy individually.” He went on to say “I want to send a big hug to everyone, to all the supporters I will try to give my best and hopefully the fans will enjoy my skills. They enjoyed me in other shirts but now I am here. I have changed a little bit. When I arrived in Europe to Atletico Madrid at 18 years old, I learned a lot, then I played for Manchester City in the Premier League.”

Sergio Agüero’s signing presentation will be on Monday where he will face the media and hold a press conference at the Auditori 1899 at 6pm (CEST).

The Man City legend, made his last appearance with the Cityzens in their Champions League final vs Chelsea on Saturday with a tearful exit after their defeat. He came on as a late substitute on the 77th minute, despite being the club’s leading goal scorer.

He also tweeted a picture after the game, with his Manchester City jersey in an empty stadium alongside a picture of Man City fans saying “Proud of this team and to have worn its colors for so many years. Manchester City, forever in my heart. ”.

We wish ‘Kun’ Agüero all the best of luck in this next step in his career and are so grateful for all the legendary and unforgettable moments he brought Manchester City, in particular that iconic 93:20 goal.

Good Luck Sergio, and once again thank you!
