Azimuth Window

The green cone in the figure above is the beamwidth you set in Rotor -> Preferences -> Presets/UI. Left click on a direction/heading turns the rotor to that heading (short path), right click turns the rotor to the opposite heading (long path). Sun and moon are only shown once they are above your location’s horizon.
You can easily change the windows background to an azimuthal world map with your location in the center:

  1. Go to https://ns6t.net/azimuth/azimuth.html The following settings work fine. Replace the Maidenhead Grid Locator with yours:
    image_0012
  2. Save the generated azimuth map as a PDF file (jpeg, png, tiff accepted as well).
  3. Open the PDF in Preview (by double clicking it). Cut it along the map and save it. You should get a map looking like this centered on your location:
    image_0013
  4. Drag the file on to the Azimuth Window
  5. Go to Rotor -> Preferences -> Presets/UI and adjust colors and color opacity to your personal preferences e.g.:
    image_0014
  6. Restart the Rotor app.

Hint: Stroke color set to black with its opacity set to 40% and Fill color opacity set to 20% produces a nice looking azimuthal world map:

It works with PDF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF files. CMD-click to change the length of the beamwidth cone.
