Nissan 300ZX Turbo (Z31) specs

It has always been a common misconception that these cars where “slow” and “heavy” and while they may be pretty slow today, they were not very slow back then. The reason why we get such disappointing acceleration and 1/4 mile times out of these cars is because of how people equipped them in tests. In a majority of the tests, these cars where equipped with the “luxurious” 4-speed automatic instead of the optional 5-speed. Further more, a majority of the cars tested where the heavier 2+2 coupes, and not the 2 seater ones. It’s important to note that almost ALL of the Turbo models in Europe were 2+2, despite the fact that they did offer lighter 2 seater models in some European markets. This is why we get 0-100 Mph times of around 19.3-19.9 seconds in most tests, and 1/4 Mile times between 15.4-15.6 Seconds. These cars definitely could have put down spicier 0-100 Mph times if they were equipped with the manual, (Maybe 18.2-18.5 Seconds in the 2+2 Turbos, and 18.0-18.3 with the 2 seater turbos).
