The TEC cooler unit looks like its a scifi prop, I want one! But IMO it would look better as a stand alone type unit with external pipes to the CPU socket.

So from what I make out, the TEC cools the water to just above ambient rather than the TEC plate cooling the CPU and then the water cooling the TEC. That right?

Brian and I are running late to a meeting with DAMMIT, but here is a picture I took of the XPS 710 H2C...



I picked it up and this sucker weighs in at 80lbs... Looks great and I'll post more on it later this week.

I only saw one running and it was in a glass case... the one pictured above was the only one I found not behind glass and with the door off, but as you can see it wasn't running.

Well, only part of the cooling is by Coolit. You'll need the other part too.

The two parts work really well together.

The XPS 710 is very spacious inside too. There is plenty of room to grow inside.

Oh joy. I guess we can expect the H2C to start leaking like a sieve - just like Apple's G5s did with the Delphi liquid cooling system.

Upon closer looks at images of the old and new liquid cooling systems used in the G5, there were some design improvements made that notmike must be referring to:

If you look closely at the tubing joints on the liquid coolant system in the earlier G5 (1st, 3rd or last image):

vs the seals in the more recent version (1st, 5th or last image):

you can see the newer version appears to use a sealant.

Also, according to Macsimum News, the radiators in the early liquid cooling systems were also a problem:

If you look at the pictures of the old vs new systems, you can see the radiator design was changed as well. Looks like there was a supplier change too. I see Delphi on the radiator label in the 3rd image of the old system, but I don't see it on the radiator in the new system. But if you look closely at the label in the last image of the new system, it looks like a new supplier was involved.

I looked at some images of the H2C, but I haven't found a good image of the tubing joints or the radiator. I hope they kept these changes.

Got a buddy who bought one of these systems. He replaced the H2C liquid cooling unit with a heat pipe. Works full out and is still quiet. All the performance he needs with none of the reliability concerns.

What a joke - the CPU doesn't need liquid cooling... it's just marketing, baby.
