Temperature Requirements for Heat Season

New Policy Between Oct 1 & May 31

  • From 6AM to 10PM, temp in dwelling units must be at least 68˚F, when outside temp is below 55˚F
  • From 10PM to 6AM, temp in dwelling units must be at least 62˚F, regardless of outside temp

During the hours between 10PM and 6AM, temperature requirements have been updated to increase the minimum indoor temperature from 55 to 62 degrees and remove outside temperature requirement.

Old Policy Between Oct 1 & May 31

  • From 6AM to 10PM, temp in dwelling units must be at least 68˚F, when outside temp is below 55˚F
  • From 10PM to 6AM, temp in dwelling units must be at least 55˚F, when outside temp falls below 40˚F

Oct 1 to May 31

  • 68˚F is maintained in all dwelling units between the hours of 6AM and 10PM, when the outside temp is below 55˚F
  • 62˚F is maintained in all dwelling units between the hours of 10PM and 6AM, regardless of outside temp*

  • 55˚F is maintained in all dwelling units between the hours of 10PM and 6AM, when the outside temp is below 40˚F

*NYCHA follows the more stringent New York City Administrative Code requirement to maintain 62˚F between the hours of 10PM and 6AM, regardless of outside temp.
