Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the reason behind striker Sergio Aguero's absence from their squad to face Bournemouth.

Fans were stunned when the Argentine failed to make their 18-man group for the game agains the Cherries as they attempt to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

Aguero has netted eight goals in the English top flight so far, while also getting two in the Champions League and three in the Carabao Cup.

Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus replaced him and made his third Premier League start.

And before the match started their Spanish head coach gave the rationale behind the decision.

"He has a muscular disturbance," said Guardiola. "He is not, I believe, fit.

"It would be risky [to play him], the doctors and physios tell me. We don’t want to take that risk."
