The Petronas Twin Towers are one of Kuala Lumpur’s top tourist attractions, located right in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Built in 1993, the Petronas Twin Towers are 88 story twin skyscrapers connected by a skybridge on their 41st floors.  The Petronas Twin Towers are the tallest twin towers in the world and, fun fact, were the tallest buildings in the word from 1998 – 2004. 

Since the Petronas towers are the symbol of Kuala Lumpur, a lot of people visit the towers every day. To ensure your visit, buy your tickets online in advance here!! I cannot stress this enough; there are a limited number of tickets available each day and they frequently sell out. In buying your ticket, you will have to select a time and you will be held to that time.

Once you have secured your tickets, you should aim to arrive at the Petronas towers with your printed ticket at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to ascend, and I recommend arriving even earlier, as there is a lot going on in that area! Particularly, entrance to the Petronas Twin Towers is located inside the Suria KLCC mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. While its a huge mall, not all of the entrances are open for security purposes, so you need to find the correct entrance and then you need to find the entrance to the towers iside the mall.

Once you enter the mall, there are signs for the entrance to the Petronas Twin Towers and the security guards in the mall were helpful in assisting us in locating the entrance. We arrived in the waiting area about 15 minutes in advance of our ticket time, so we just waited. Shortly before our entrance time, we lined up to go through airport style security and were given passes to ascend to the towers. We also received a brief security demonstration by a 3D computer figure; they are very serious about security in the Petronas Twin Towers.

After the safety breifing, your entire color group (we were blue) take the elevator to the 41st floor to visit the bridge linking the twin towers. The elevator is pretty quick and we had about 15 minutes on the bridge to take pictures and enjoy the view! It was really beautiful.

When our 15 minutes on the skybridge was up (and it is timed to the second it seems), we proceed to down a hall to another elevator to take us further up the tower. After a stop in a small gift shop, our Blue Group was broken up even further and we took a very small elevator the last few floors to the very top of one of the Towers. Here, we, again, had about 15 minutes to enjoy the view and the attractions at the top of the tower, including a minature version of the towers and a fun game with the TV. 

After our time was up, we proceeded back downstairs via an elevator and were let off into, surprise, a gift shop! I did purchase a very cute sarong and some Malaysia postcards that are now framed in our house!  All in all, our visit to the towers was pretty fun and took a little over an hour.

Buy tickets online in advance here. Adult admission tickets are approximately $20 USD (80 Malaysian Ringgit).  If you miss out on buying your tickets online in advance, you can usually join a third-party group tour and still access the Twin Towers, but this is more expensive and a bigger time commitment.

ON A BUDGET

Buying tickets is the only way to visit the Petronas Twin Towers. That being said, the best views of the Petronas Twin Towers are from outside same, so I would not categorize actually ascending the Petronas Twin Towers as a “must do” if you are on a budget.
