All family and friends are home safe and sound.

Mentioned I brought this at the beach Airbnb we were at and it was such peace of mind!

Just get it, so easy to turn on and use after setup !!

First, ANYBODY that drives to a bar should have some kind of personal breathalyzer. Preferably a fuel cell based one.

The good: it's pretty accurate - +/- 0.05 of a Smart Start unit, just make sure to drink water first, and make sure your last alcoholic drink was at least 15 minutes prior. No mouth wash, etc.
The app is pretty good at predicting when you'll be sober.
Pretty decent battery life.

The bad:
If you do anything on your phone after blowing, but before the app has finished calculating, you have to blow again.
The device itself is INCREDIBLY finicky about powering on after being charged. I often have to plug it back in for a minute, unplug it, try again, rinse, repeat, until it finally turns on. Once it does, it's fine until the next time I have to charge it.
Mine seems to not register under 0.008 - once I'm below that, it just shows 0.00.
You do need to send it in for calibration once a year or so, but that's the case for any good breathalyzer.
Very difficult to use without the mouthpieces (BACTrack claims you don't have to use them if you don't want to; you really do need to use them).
App can be picky. If your phone rings while it's calculating, or even if you turn your phone sideways, it crashes to the main screen on my phone. It sometimes won't register any touches either, I have to force close and restart the app.

If I were to do it again, I'd get the BACTrack S80 instead. Built in display, and it's NHTSA and DOT approved. It's the same fuel cell that's in the Mobile, just larger.

For this thing being $100 it’s incredibly disappointing how much it malfunctions and doesn’t work. It just chooses to not turn on whenever it wants. And the company claims this specific one is the top rated. I’m not sure how?? We’ve had nothing but issues ever since we got it. Don’t waste your money!

Pros:
+ Easy to use
+ Fast results
+ Comes with 3 additional mouthpieces, so several people can be tested without having to sterilize immediately
+ App doesn’t require any additional purchases, and allows you to track results
+ The app has you guess your BAC while waiting for the result. I DO recommend this, as it makes you consider this, pay attention, and I think that it helps this work as a learning tool
+ Small, discrete size
+ Comes with a zippered case; rather essential to keep it clean since you put it on your mouth ;)
+ The app provides info about how each BAC level could or would affect you, and it’s interesting and helpful information
Cons:
- must blow into it at least once a month to keep the sensor from drying out and being ruined (what happens if this sits in a warehouse somewhere for several months, or if you forget to use it)?
- fine print recommends sending it in every six months to be recalibrated
- collects your name, date of birth, and other private information. The terms and conditions prohibit using false information, yet giving over your identity with alcohol use is definitely problematic and could have unintended consequences.
Summary:
This is best used as a learning tool. I found that the little bit of wine that I sometimes have with dinner doesn’t budge my BAC; that’s good peace of mind that if there should be an emergency requiring me to drive, then I can do that. I ordered this thinking that it may be good to have along at an upcoming wedding in case any concerns about guests driving home again arose- that wedding was cancelled due to the pandemic, but I found it interesting to learn about my personal use and would recommend it for that purpose. I cannot comment on accuracy, because that would actually require group data on a larger scale with additional forms of blood alcohol concentration measurement. If you need that sort of information, then watch for it in published literature. If accuracy is proven, it will show up in peer-reviewed journals. PubMed is a good site to check for updates. There Is potential for this to be used for therapeutic purposes; but, not until research shows both accuracy and that it enhances treatment. It is too soon as of this 2020 writing to extend it to that sort of application. I hope that this helps with your decision. Do let me know, and enjoy shopping!

Download the app and the device didn’t connect couldn’t get any readings tried to troubleshoot it didn’t matter. I had to return it. Return was easy they gave me a full refund. Sad the item didn’t work to concept was nice.
