Jean-Claude Van Damme is a name that makes most movie buffs nod in appreciation for his art he creates in the cinema.

The 59-year-old is a retired martial artist who used those skills to make a name for himself as the star to go to for the best martial art action films.

He starred in Bloodsport (1988), Kickboxer (1989), Lionheart (1990), Death Warrant (1990), Double Impact (1991), Street Fighter (1994) and many more over the decades.

But despite his success in his field and his wealth, the talented actor had many other challenges arise in his life.

From five divorces, a £10,000 cocaine habit and an affair with the stunning singer Kylie Minogue, here is Damme's life explored.

Kylie Minogue affair

Kylie Minogue and Jean-Claude Van Damme met when they starred in Street Fighter together

Admitting himself that it was a terrible movie, Damme had only bit of success when he starred in Street Fighter which was released in 1994.

And that was that he met the beautiful and talented Kylie Minogue on the set and ended up having an affair.

For the longest time it was nothing more than speculation and rumours for almost twenty years the pair denied it happened.

During one interview Damme even walked out when the Can't Get You Out of My Head singer came up in a question.

Then, in 2014, a clearly fed up Damme decided to spill all the beans.

Speaking to The Guardian he admitted he had an affair with Kylie while in Thailand filming Street Fighter, 18 years prior.

He told the publication at the time: "Yes. OK. Yes, yes, yes. It happened. I was in Thailand, we had an affair."

Kylie has never spoken out about the alleged affair

Confirming it was a good time, Damme continued: "Sweet kiss, beautiful lovemaking.

"It would be abnormal not to have had an affair, she's so beautiful and she was there in front of me every day with a beautiful smile, simpatico, so charming.

"I knew Thailand very well, so I showed her my Thailand. She's a great lady."

It would have all been fine if Damme hadn't of been married to his fourth wife Darcy LaPier at the time of the affair.

Speaking to Fox News, LaPier revealed she too found out it was true when Damme gave the interview to the Guardian.

Shortly after the article dropped she spoke to Fox News about how she felt about his pubic admission.

She told the publication: "I was shocked he would talk to the press about this all these years later to gain some notoriety.

"I didn't know about it, I have had my feelings hurt and I feel betrayed.

"There is a lot of water under the bridge between us, but the fact is I was pregnant with our son at the time.

"He's almost 17 now and I wouldn't want him finding out all of this and being hurt by it too."

Struggles with cocaine addiction

Damme battled a cocaine addiction which he once confessed to spending £10K a week on

The star has spoken very bravely, honestly and boldly about his biggest demon in his life many times, his cocaine addiction.

Damme is now sober and lives a positive and fulfilled life but he once struggled with the class A drug so much that he would have 10 grams of the white powder per day.

He once revealed that he would spend around £10,000 a week on the deathly substance.

By 1999, he had racked up a DUI charge and even tried rehab, but left after only seven days.

Tragically a few years later he relapsed and continued his habits which almost cost him his entire life.

From 1999 until 2008 he made 14 films which struggled to make a mark on Hollywood, but now the star is back making hit films.

In 2008 he decided to turn his life around and the rest has been an extremely positive chapter for the star.

Brutal Steven Seagal feud

Damme didn't speak too kindly of Steven Segal's weight during an interview

Going back to 2014, after beating his cocaine addiction Damme began making a name for himself in the industry once again.

However, that hasn't come without a feud here or there - the most fiery being with Steven Seagal.

During his promotional tour for his new movie 'The Expendables 2', the action hero told Yahoo! Movies about his feud with fellow martial arts actor Steven, 68.

It started as Damme named possible additions to the Expendables team to a reporter on the red carpet when Steven Seagal's name came up.

Jean Claude has beaten his demons and is back making films

Damme reacted by sharing his opinion that it might not be such a good idea, but things quickly took a very catty turn.

At the time, he started off claiming that he'd love to see Steven in the next movie, but then voiced that Steven "should lose some weight!"

He went on to explain that the pair had met on a number of occasions but they didn't "get on".

Explaining the cause for the rift, Damme said it was simple, and told Yahoo! it's "Because I'm good."

He continued: "I like him a lot. He's a good guy. He's got good charisma, something special on the screen. I would love to see him there."
