“Pristine” 1995 McLaren F1 listed for sale with just 390km on the clock
Scheduled to go under the hammer at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the three-seat supercar is expected to fetch more than AU$20 million.
A 1995 McLaren F1 supercar has been listed for sale in the USA, with price expectations “in excess of US$15 million” (AU$20 million).
The near-pristine Gordon Murray-designed vehicle – stamped chassis number 029 of 106 – has clocked just 390km since new, and reportedly spent the majority of its 26-year history locked away in a private Japanese collection.
While hard to verify, the seller claims this makes it one of the “best-preserved examples in existence.”
The lightweight monocoque body and exterior panels are finished in a one-off metallic brown hue, while the three-seat interior is trimmed in tan and dark brown leather with carbon-fibre highlights.
Drive comes from a BMW-sourced 6.1-litre naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine, sending 461kW/650Nm to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
McLaren never officially published performance specifications for the F1, however real-world testing suggests a 0-100km/h sprint time of around 3.2 seconds and top speed in excess of 380km/h.
The British supercar is listed through the Gooding & Company auction house, and will go under the hammer at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.
The value of McLaren F1 supercars has more than quadrupled since new, owing to the low-volume production run and high-profile former owners (including Elon Musk, Jay Leno, and Rowan Atkinson). In 2019 a private buyer secured a 1994 example for a record-setting US$19.8 million (AU$25 million).
