Australian batter Glenn Maxwell played an absolute blinder against Hashmatullah Shahidi’s Afghanistan in the World Cup 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Maxwell scored an unbeaten 201 runs off 128 balls with 21 fours and 10 sixes and played at a strike-rate of 157.03. On the back of his knock, Australia chased down a stiff target of 292 with 19 balls left in their innings.

The Aussies, at one point in time, were struggling at 91 for seven in 18.3 overs before Maxwell stepped up and played the unreal knock.

With his knock, Maxwell also made sure that Australia became the third team to make their way through to the semi-final after Rohit Sharma’s India and Temba Bavuma’s South Africa.

Here are some of the records that Glenn Maxwell made en route to his knock against Afghanistan:

1 – Glenn Maxwell set the record for the highest individual score by an Australian batter in ODIs. He went past Shane Watson’s 185 not out against Bangladesh in 2011.

9 – Glenn Maxwell became the ninth batter and the first Australian to score an ODI double hundred. Rohit Sharma, Martin Guptill, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Fakhar Zaman, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar are the others.

3 – Glenn Maxwell became the third batter to score a double hundred in the ODI World Cup. Martin Guptill (against West Indies in 2015) and Chris Gayle (against Zimbabwe in 2015) are the two batters to have achieved the feat.

2 – Glenn Maxwell became the second-fastest batter to score a double hundred in ODIs. He got to the milestone off 128 balls. India’s Ishan Kishan holds the record with his 126-ball double ton against Bangladesh last year at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

1 – Glenn Maxwell racked up the highest score by a batter in a World Cup run-chase. He broke the record of Andrew Strauss, who scored 158 against India back in 2011 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

1 – Glenn Maxwell became the first non-opener to hit a double hundred in ODIs. He broke the record of Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry, who scored an unbeaten 194 against Bangladesh in Bulwayo back in 2009.

1 – Glenn Maxwell holds the record for the highest individual score in run-chases after becoming the first batter to hit a double hundred in the second innings of an ODI. He broke the record of Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman, who scored 193 against South Africa back in 2021 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

5 – Glenn Maxwell became the fifth batter to score a double hundred on Indian soil in ODIs. Rohit Sharma (3), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Shubman Gill are the others with double hundreds in India.

1 – Glenn Maxwell put on the highest partnership for 8th wicket or lower in ODIs along with Pat Cummins. The duo stitched together a 202-run stand. They broke the record set by Andrew Hall and Justin Kemp back in 2006 with a partnership of 138 against India in Cape Town.
