PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Two Portland neighborhoods were named among the most friendly in the United States, according to an All Star Home analysis.

All Star Home compiled a list of the 200 most-viewed city neighborhoods on Zillow in 2022 and analyzed nearly 150,000 Google reviews from 2023 for businesses in the neighborhoods.

“From banks and bars to coffee shops and grocery stores, we analyzed the reviews of businesses people regularly visit, using the percentage of reviews with the word ‘friendly’ in them to determine our rankings,” All Star Home explained. “People clamor to find real neighborhoods that feel like the friendliest TV towns, such as Stars Hollow, Pawnee, and Schitt’s Creek.”

Two Portland neighborhoods were named among the top 15 friendliest, according to the list. Portland’s Mt. Tabor neighborhood was ranked the seventh most friendly neighborhood with 15.32% of reviews with the word “friendly,” All Star Home reports.

The list also ranked Portland’s Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood at number 15 with 14.23% of reviews with the word “friendly.”

The most friendly neighborhood went to Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood with 19.87% of reviews with the word “friendly,” followed by Kingwood in Houston, Highland in Saint Paul, Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, and South Boulevard-Park Row Historic in Dallas, rounding out the top five in the list.

According to the list, the West has the most friendly neighborhoods, noting, “It could be that the mountains and ocean air inspire geniality. A whopping 6 out of the 10 friendliest neighborhoods on the list fall within Western states, and only 1 out of the 10 least friendliest is a Western state.”

The analysis also named Trader Joe’s as the friendliest well-known store and dry cleaners among the top list of friendly businesses.

“The prevailing wisdom about real estate is that location is everything. So maybe a friendly location is everything plus, and if you can walk to a friendly pharmacy, coffee shop, and megastore, so much the better,” All Star Home concluded.
