The 13 Best Anime Like Ouran High School Host Club

The all-boys school has gotten a bit of a shock to its system after receiving the first female student council president. Misaki Ayuzawa has been named the "Demon President" by the countless boys of the school while she defends the girls as they transition to this new co-ed environment. However, she does have a huge secret that she absolutely can't let anyone at the school know about; she works part-time at a maid café in order to help her family make ends meet. When the most sought after boy in school, Takumi Usui, spots her working, all chaos breaks loose. While the premise is somewhat different between Maid Sama! and Ouran Host Club, there's a very similar sense of school secrets in addition to the main characters being in a very similar position.

Ouran Host Club didn't exactly have any kind of mysticism going on in the background of its high school tale, but if it's something you're interested in, you should give Fruits Basket a watch! 16-year-old Tooru has been living on her own since her mother's death and her grandfather's home renovation. Living in a tent out in a forest, she doesn't realize that the property is actually owned by the Souma family. After losing her tent to a landslide, the "prince" of her school and one of the people to live on the land, Yuki Souma, takes her in. However, living with Yuki and his family is going to get very strange when she finds out that if they hug a member of the opposite sex, they'll turn into one of the animals from the zodiac. If you don't feel like watching the older animation, you can always wait for the reboot that will be coming out in 2019!

Hikari Hanazono has always been able to handle everything on her own while also managing to be the best. From academics to athletics, she's always been on top. However, Kei Takishima seems to be equally as good, if not better. After challenging him, and brutally losing, Hikari decides that she'll continue to try and beat him until she wins; which won't be as easy as it sounds. Despite losing to him every time, she continues to strive to beat him. What she doesn't seem to understand is that Kei clearly likes her. A romantic comedy about the students of the class Special A, this anime series gives off a similar vibe in both humor and romance to Ouran Host Club with the leading female being incredibly smart, but totally oblivious when it comes to a popular boy having a crush on her.

Often dressing as a boy, Hotaru Tachibana has always had a strong sense of justice. When she finds out that a popular host of a club has tricked one of her friends, she decides to confront him all on her own. Masamune Matsuoka, the accused, decides to take her on by challenging her to a survival game, where the first person hit by the bullet of a toy pistol loses. When she's hit by the very talented Masamune, it's more than just her pride that's broke; there may have been some damage done to the club that she'll have to pay for. Now she's forced to join his survival game team, Toy Gun Gun, in order to pay Masamune back. Sound a little familiar? Much like Haruhi, Hotaru is in almost the same exact position with a very different story to follow.

Umetarou Nozaki is completely confused when Chiyo Sakura confesses her love to him. It's always nerve-wracking to tell someone you like them, but when he hands her an autograph, Chiyo becomes bewildered at the sudden turn of events. As it turns out, Umetarou is actually a very popular shoujo mangaka who's been using the pen name Sakiko Yumeno to cover his trail. Now Chiyo is in an awkward position where she will be his assistant in creating popular series. Much like Ouran Host Club, there's a level of confusion between characters, oblivious romance, and a certain amount of secrecy that leads to a lot of comedy.

When she overhears him claiming how easy it is to use her, she decides it's time to take her revenge by entering the entertainment industry herself. A series of trial, error, and constant comedy awaits in this hilarious classic. The humor is very much like Ouran Host Club.

Ouran High School Host Club was well known for its comedy and unique situation that involved cross-dressing, so if you're looking for something that has a similar feeling, Princess Jellyfish is a perfect follow up. Tsukimi Kurashita has always been obsessed with jellyfish ever since her late mother took her to an aquarium. To her, the long, wavy tentacles reminded her of a princess' dress; long, flowing and free. Later living with 5 other otaku women, Tsukimi hopes to one day become an illustrator. When a beautiful woman helps her save a jellyfish at a local pet store, things begin to change for her as she realizes that there may be more to this mysterious person; she's not a woman, but rather a college boy named Kuranosuke Koibuchi.

Of course, Ouran High School Host Club has a very important factor; the fact that academics play a huge role in Haruhi's life. Baka and Test take schooling to a whole new level as students are expected to earn their grades by controlling an avatar that will fight battles depending on the student's knowledge. Unfortunately for Akihisa Yoshii, he's not the brightest student and is placed in the lowest class possible. In order for his class to earn a better learning environment, they're going to have to work together in hopes of receiving better grades!

Despite the obvious nerves, she's determined to stay on her journey till the right moment comes. All high schoolers go through this same awkward situation, and the delinquent Kenji Harima is no different. Much like Tenma, he too can't seem to figure out how to confess to the girl he likes that he loves her. While School Rumble is certainly more focused on a romance aspect, the comedy of high school drama is very much the same as Ouran Host Club.

If you're looking for other anime series that showcase cross-dressing characters, such as Haruhi's role in Ouran Host Club, Princess Princess should be next on your watchlist. Tooru Kouno is incredibly attractive, but he's unfortunately had to transfer to an all-boys school. While it seems that there are no girls attending classes at this particular school, he did see a beautiful girl on the grounds earlier. Thinking that he'd still be able to meet some women, he's shocked when he meets his classmate, Mikoto Yutaka, who looks a lot like the girl he saw earlier. As it turns out, at this school, attractive boy first years are chosen to become "Princesses" in order to boost the morale of the student body. Now Tooru is expected to join them.
